When we talk about foliage, the money plant is one of the most popular plants. From households to offices; this plant is a show stopper anywhere. Along with the beauty of the plant, the Vastu concept is also responsible for its popularity. Even in Feng Sui, this plant is known to bring financial prosperity to the house. One of the simplest plants to reproduce is the money plant, which may be done using stem cuttings.

However, you may find that there are a few people who struggle to keep this plant alive. Though the plant is really a low-maintenance one; there are a few tips that will help to grow a money plant at home. You can even propagate and multiply the number of plants within a few days. So to bring abundant fortune and good luck in your life by growing a beautiful and bushy money plant with the following 10 simple steps.

  • Step 1: You can easily propagate money plant at home. You just need a strong and healthy brunch. Make sure the stem has at least one node. Take a sharp bled or scissor. Now cut the stem diagonally so that it gets maximum space to absorb water. Before cutting, wash the cutter with spirit to disinfect the surface. Now, cut down the stem in one go.
  • Step 2: Though you can grow money plants directly in the soil, it is advisable to start the process in water. Take a glass jar, and fill up the jar with clean water. If the TDS of the tap water is too high at your place, then go for RO water. You can also add some pebbles or clay balls to the water. Now place the stem in the jar. Make sure the node should be merged in the water while the leaves should stay up in the water.
  • Step 3: You need to change the water once every 3-5 days. It gives a supply of fresh oxygen to grow new roots and leaves.
  • Step 4: You can see the growth of new roots within 7 – 10 days. You have to keep the stem in water for a few more days until the roots grow strong. Meanwhile, if you see algae on the roots, you need to wash it thoroughly as it prevents the roots to soak oxygen from water.
  • Step 5: When you feel that the roots are strong enough to sustain in the soil, you need to prepare the mix to plant it. Money plant is a hardy plant and it can grow in any sort of soil. However, to get the best result, you need to prepare a mix of normal garden soil, cocopeat, and organic compost. Mix all the ingredients in equal amounts and make sure that there is no lump.
  • Step 6: Now after preparing the soil, you have to plant the rooted stem. For money plants, you can select a planter of any size and material. You need to check for the drainage hole as it is very important. Make a deep hole in the soil and safely put the plant and add the required amount of soil. Now add water adequately until it comes out from the hole.
  • Step 7: Place the money plant pot in a location that receives indirect sunlight. Indirect bright light is the most ideal condition for this plant. If the place has less sunlight, then the stem will grow leggy as the brunch will grow in search of light. On the other hand, too much sunlight will burn the leaves of the money plant. You can also keep the plant indoors. For this plant, a spot near the window is perfect. Make sure it will receive indirect sunlight otherwise, you need to bring the plant outside for two days every week.
  • Step 8: Watering is very important for the money plant. You should not overwater the plant. Overwatering will cause root rot. If you find the yellowing of leaves, then reduce the frequency of watering. However, you should not keep the soil dry for long. Check the soil with a finger and if it is not sticky then only add water. Money plant does not like dry and hot weather. During summer mist the plant twice a day.
  • Step 9: The money plant is not a heavy feeder. It does not need much fertilizer. A handful once a year is enough for this plant.

Step 10: Regular trimming and pruning are very important for money plants. You can prune the stems to encourage the growth of the new leaves. Moreover, you can always plant those stems for the new plant.
